We left Hervey Bay on Sunday, 24 July and we were on the home stretch back towards Sydney. But first we had one more event on Sunday: to pay a visit to our son's "not-in-law-in-laws" (or "out-laws"?...), that is, his partner's parents. They live in Peregian Beach near Noosa. We had a wonderful lunch and a nice chat with Sue and Peter on the verandah of their beautiful big house, looking out to their even more beautiful big garden, then we went on a bit more Southward and spent the night at the Mudjimba caravan park.

Not much else to report on the trip back home. We drove all day along the coast, back to New South Wales, with a lunch stop and a night rest each day. The weather was sunny but it got gradually colder, and Tuesday morning it was 6.5 degrees inside the van when we woke up around 6 o'clock. We spent the nights at caravan parks so we had power and could heat up the van a little bit with our small electric heater. We arrived home around midday on Wednesday 27 July and found everything in order. Now we have the enviable task of unpacking, cleaning, washing, setting everything in order.

So that was the end of this 3-month tour of the North. We drove a lot, more than 16 thousand kms, we had a few troubles with our car (2 flat tyres) and van, but we managed to solve all these. We have seen some beautiful places again and we enjoyed the tropical climate and flora and fauna - despite the inconveniences (heat, humidity, insects). This was our second long trip to the North. There were some places that we wanted to get back to but we tried to pick places that we had left out in 2012. It was interesting to see the changes after 4 years: it seems caravanning has become even more popular, there were far more vans on the road everywhere, it has become difficult to find a spot in the more popular areas, all the caravan parks are full and much more expensive than they were four years ago. It has become even more difficult to find places where we could be alone undisturbed in nature. But this process is likely to continue in the future, so we might have to look for other, more remote destinations for our next trip...

Vasárnap, jul. 24.-én indultunk el hazafelé Hervey Bay-ből, de aznap még volt egy korábban megbeszélt programunk: meglátogattuk Marci fiunk partnerének a szüleit akik a Peregian Beach-en laknak Noosa közelében egy hatalmas gyönyörű házban egy még hatalmasabb s szebb kertben. Jól megebédeltünk és elbeszélgettünk velük a verandán üldögélve, aztán még kicsit tovább mentünk dél felé. Az éjszakét a Mudjimba kempingben töltöttük.

A hazaút további részéről nem sok mondanivaló van. Utaztunk egész nap a tengerpart mentén egy déli pihenővel és esténként megaludtunk egy kempingben. Visszaértünk New South Wales államba és az idő ugyan szép napos volt de egyre hűvösebb lett. Kedd reggel 6.5 fok volt a lakókocsiban amikor felébredtünk 6 óra felé. A kempingben volt áramunk így be tudtunk egy kicsit fűteni egy kis hűsugárzóval. Szerdán, jul. 27-én déltájban értünk haza, és itthon mindent rendben találtunk. Most jön az utazás legkellemetlenebb része: mindent ki kell pakolni, takarítani, mosni, rendet rakni, stb.

Így ért véget a három-hónapos észak-ausztráliai túránk. Rengeteget autóztunk, több mint 16-ezer km-t, volt egy pár gondunk az autóval (két defekt) és a lakókocsival, de ezeket sikerült megoldani. Láttunk sok szép helyet és élveztük a trópusi időjárást és növényzetet - a kellemetlenségek ellenére (hőség, pára, szunyogok, homoki legyek). Ez volt a második hosszabb utazásunk az északi országrészeken. Volt egy pár hely ahova vissza akartunk menni de igyekeztünk olyan helyeket választani ahol nem jártunk 2012-ben. Érdekes volt látni a változást négy év után: a lakókocsis utazás sokkal népszerűbb lett, sokkal több lakókocsival találkoztunk az úton, a népszerűbb helyeken nehéz volt helyet kapni, minden kemping szinültig volt és jóval drágább mint négy éve. Még nehezebb lett olyan helyeket találni ahol viszonylag magunkban lehettünk a természetben. És ez valószínűleg csak egyre rosszabb lesz a jövőben. A következő utunkra kevésbé népszerű helyszíneket kell keresni majd...
