We docked in Broome on the morning of 11 June, and after a final breakfast on the ship it was time to leave the ship and say farewell to the crew and our expedition leaders. They all stand in line to shake our hands as we boarded the bus to our next destinations.

We were taken to the Kimberley Sands Resort, our home for the next 3 nights. It was early morning, so we had to wait beside the pool before we could move into our room around midday. The afternoon went quickly with unpacking and a bit more rest. Then it was time to go if we did not want to miss the most important event in Broome: the sunset at Cable Beach, which occurs before 5.30 pm at this time of the year.

Cable Beach is our favourite place in Broome, and we spent the next two mornings on the beach in rented deck chairs under the parasol, relaxing, reading and enjoying the scenery and the pleasant 32 degree sunshine. We had a plunge in the calm and warm clear water of the Indian Ocean. There were surprisingly few people around but we did not mind that. By lunchtime we had enough of the sun, went back to the hotel.
One afternoon, and on the morning of our last day we went into town by bus, for a walk around the centre to re-visit so mother interesting places, the history museum, and the site of the Sisters of St John of God convent, which is now a heritage centre with a vast archive of photos and documents about the history of the convent. Kate also visited the old Japanese cemetery, while I worked on our photo collections in the hotel.
And of course, every evening at sunset we went back to Cable beach to admire the lights and the scenery.
Then, on the afternoon of 14 June we boarded the plane to fly back to the cold winter of Sydney. It was time to prepare for our next adventure...

Június 11.-én reggel kötöttünk ki Broome-ban, és egy utolsó reggeli után el kellett búcsúznunk a hajótól és a legénységtől, akik sorfalat álltak a híd mellett amint beszálltunk a buszba.
A következő 3 éjszakára a Kimberley Sands Resort-ban szálltunk meg. Reggel érkeztünk, délelőtt a hotel medencéje mellett vártuk hogy beköltözhessünk a szobánkba. A délután gyorsan eltelt kipakolással és pihenéssel. Aztán már indulnunk kellett ha nem akarjuk elszalasztani a legfontosabb eseményt Broome-ban: a naplementét Cable Beach-en, ami fél 6 előtt történik június közepe táján.

Cable Beach a legkedvesebb helyünk Broome-ban, itt töltöttük a következő két nap délelőttjét, bérelt nyugágyakban pihenve és olvasva a napernyő alatt, és élveztük a látványt és a kellemes 30 fok körüli napsütést. Többször meg is fürödtünk az Indiai Óceán nyugodt, meleg tiszta vizében. Meglepően kevesen voltak a parton és az egész városban, de ezt nem bántuk.
Déltájban már elegünk lett a napból, hazamentünk.

Egyik délután, és az utolsó nap délelőtt bementünk busszal a városba kicsit sétálni és ujra megnézni néhány érdekes helyet: a városi múzeumot, és a régi Sisters of St John of God kolostor helyszínét, ahol ma egy hatalmas archivum van tele régi fotókkal és dokumentumokkal az apácák életéről és munkájáról szerte a Kimberley régióban. Kati elment a régi japán temetőbe is, amíg én a hotelban dolgoztam a fotóink válogatásán.
És persze minden este visszamentünk a Cable Beach-re naplementét nézni.
Aztán június 14.-én délután felszálltunk a repülőre, és visszarepültünk a sydney-i hideg télbe. Itt az ideje hogy a következő kalandra készüljünk...
