Murramarang National Park

This was just a short getaway, a few days' relaxation in the hope of some fine weather before the end of summer. Murramarang National Park is on the South Coast, about 270 km from Sydney, just before Batemans Bay. 

Depot Beach Campground

We booked a place at the Depot Beach Campground, which is in a beautiful tall spotted gum forest, just behind the beach. It is managed by the national park, not a caravan park, but there are showers and toilets, that's all we need. There are a few powered sites, but we wanted to test how long we can live with our own solar power, so we took an unpowered site.

It was a very nice place. When we arrived on a Friday around 1 pm there were only a few fellow campers, but by the evening the whole place was almost full and the remaining few places were filled in by Saturday lunchtime. Many caravans but also lots of families and couples with tents. Then most of the visitors left by Sunday afternoon, and we had two more quiet days until Wednesday morning.

A large family of Eastern grey kangaroos also seemed to be living at the campground, quietly munching the grass in between the campers, and letting themselves photographed and caressed by people. 
A large goanna was foraging for food around our van a few times.

Plenty of birds also came very close to our caravan, parrots and others looking for food drops and/or handouts.

On the Discovery Trail

We did a few shorter walks and car trips. One short trail goes through the remnants of an ancient rainforest, just behind Depot beach, an interesting mixture of various palms, dense shrubs and large eucalypt trees. 



Another walk goes along the coastline from the nearby Pebble beach, which is a pure sandy beach, but a bit further North we did find a smaller bay with pebbles. We also went through the Durras Lake Discovery Trail, another remnant of endangered rainforest, with informative displays highlighting the history of the forest and early logging in the area. One morning we drove in to Batemans Bay, a coastal holiday town, for a bit of shopping and look-around.





Apart from that, we spent most time just relaxing, reading, playing, watching in and beside our comfortable caravan. Thanks to the good weather, we could also spend a few hours on the beach. I tasted the water every day, and even Kate jumped in once.




Our caravan had passed the test quite well, we could live on our own solar power for 5 days and nights.

2016-Depot Beach

Ezúttal csak egy rövid pár napos kiruccanásra volt alkalmunk, abban a reményben, hogy még tudunk valamit élvezni a nyárvégi jó időből. Murramarang Nemzeti Park Sydney-től délre van kb 270 km-re a tengerpart mentén.

Depot Beach

A Depot Beach nevű táborhelyen foglaltunk helyet a lakókocsinknak. Ez egy magas ritkás eukaliptusz-erdőben van, közvetlenül a beach mögött. A nemzeti park üzemelteti, nincs úgy felszerelve mint egy kemping, de van benne zuhanyozó és WC, ez nekünk elég is. Van egy pár olyan hely is ahol az elektromos áramra is rá lehet kapcsolódni, de mi most pont azt akartuk kipróbálni, hogy meddig tudunk megélni a saját szolár-generátorunk energiájával. 

Goanna

Nagyon kellemes hely volt. Péntek déltájban érkeztünk, akkor még alig voltak, de estére majdnem teljesen betelt, és szombaton a maradék helyeket is elfoglalták, lakókocsik és sátras családok. Aztán vasárnap délután legtöbben hazamentek, nekünk még volt két nyugodt, csendes napunk. 

Egy nagy kenguru-család is látszólag ott lakott a táborhelyen, nagyon szelidek, békésen rágcslják a füvet és még megsimogatni is hagyják magukat. Egy nagy goanna is keresgélt a közelünkben. 

Mit kapunk?...

Rengeteg madár is repkedett körülöttünk, színes papagájok, és kevésbé látványos, számomra ismeretlen fajták. 

Az "igazi" Pebble beach

Tettünk egy pár rövid túrát, gyalog és autóval. Mindjárt a táborhely mellett indult egy "rainforest walk", egy őskori sűrű eső-erdő maradványa, tele mindenféle pálmákkal, liánokkal, sűrű alj-növényzettel és óriási eukaliptuszokkal. Egy másik séta a tengerpart mentén vezett a Pebble beach-től, ami nevével ellentétben szép tiszta homokos tengerpart, de kicsit később találtunk egy valóban kavicsokkal borított öblöt is. Végigjártuk a Durras Lake Discovery Trail-t is, ahol a tó és egy másik őskori eső-erdő maradványai mellett a múlt száazadi fakittermelés történetéről is láttunk isemretést. Egy délelőtt beautóztunk a közeli Batemans Bay településbe kicsit vásárolni és körülnézni, de nem sok érdekeset láttunk.

Kati a vízben

Emellett leginkább csak üldögéltünk a lakókocsinban vagy mellette, pihentünk, olvastunk, nézelődtünk. Szerencsénk volt az idővel, tudtunk egy pár órát a tengerparton is tölteni, én fürödtem is minden nap, és Kati is megkóstolta a vizet egyszer.

A lakókocsink jól vizsgázott, minden nehézség nélkül volt elég áramunk végig az öt napon és estén.
